Hooraay! Bravo, bravisimo!! for Jan, who is fighting -and winning- all these battles of those things we take for granted... never again! Next time I have a sip of water I will remember what it meant today for Jan. Next time I write a word, I will remember the effort Jan made today to write something for us. As I type this blog, I remember Jan's smile when she typed Hi!, and feel truly thankful for such everyday gifts: walk, talk, write, swallow.
Janita, gracias! for the beautiful gift of your voice and your words. One day soon you will celebrate with us.

Jan had a brain hemorhage on February 10,2006. Against all odds, she survived and has gone far on her recovery. Her ordeal has been a source of pain and limitations, but also it has been a source of inspiration and learning for many. This blog is a caregiver's account. We hope one day she will tell her own story with her own words. -FC

If my heart was a river
If my heart was a river,
it would bear no scars,
it would embrace the rocks,
turn, roll and explode
in a joyful laughter
dissipated in white foam.
If my heart was a river,
it would bear no scars
when the curious child
sent that flat-rounded stone
skipping over the surface,
leaving ever growing rings,
soon to be hidden
in the memory of its flow.
If my heart was a river,
it would bear no scars,
when my love dipped her feet
in its waters to cool her day,
or when she raised her voice
to stop its flow,
or when she mixed
her tears with my waves.
But my heart is not a river,
it bears scars
as if it was wearing
the fingerprints of life.

What an awesome week the past week has been for Jan's recovery. Every day she is taking new steps in her recovery. I imagine she will soon be able to write her own comments in this blog!
Jan, way to go! Congratulations on all your progress.
We are all celebrating the progress Jan makes every day. I just knew she would be one of the lucky ones to survive and recover. Way to go Jan!
Fede, I am so happy for you as well, that Jan's illness did not cut short your journey together.
